The cables and electricity lines (if they are electricity lines...) make this an interresting piece.

Again, take your time to determine the best angle and then make the photograph. If you'd have stepped one or two steps to the left, I think the hotel sign and the Milwaukee sign would've come out a little bit better in this photo (either that, or you would've been overrun by a car and be completely flat by now, in which case I forgive you for not taking the extra step ;)).

The balcony in front of the sign now takes up quite a big part of the photo. Which would be perfeclty ok if it was an interresting balcony. But in this case, it's not and it even draws the attention away from the main subject(s) of the photo, namely the two signs. IMHO, having a small part of the balcony in your picture would've been a little bit better; there's nothing wrong with a darker area in the photo, which adds to the overall balance of the photo, but it shouldn't draw the attention away from what you're trying to photograph.

Also, if you have a digital camera (but I'm guessing this is a scanned photo made with a normal camera; correct me if I'm wrong :)), try to experiment. Take pictures in both color and B&W. If the signs were neon-signs, take a picture during the evening or night. Take pictures at different times of the day to see what effect the position of the sun has on the lighting and shadows (in general, between 11:00 am and 14:00 pm, the sun is high up in the sky; taking photo's during this period often results in harsh, flat photo's with ugly shadows, so I mostly try to take photo's either before or after that period; taking photo's in the evening often results in a very warm lighting with pretty shadows).

Again, I hope this helps; it's not meant to discourage you, but as constructive criticism :)

No... I love this kind of stuff the problem was I had all of two seconds before I would have been run over by a large group of tourists and it was on a school field trip and we were supposed to be getting to another area and I was already way behind. An, you're right, if i had moved to the left i would have been run over by a crazy cabie (which were everywhere). And the photo is scanned and my scanner is crud... but i really like the crit. Nobody evr tells me that kind of thing they just tell me that it could be better.

Well, no photo is ever worth being overrun by a cab ;)
Glad you like criticism; the least I can do is tell you what I personally think of your work and how you could perhaps improve it. And then it's up to you to decide what to do with the comments people give you. But I like your work, it shows potential :)

Thank you! I like the idea of potential.... it's better than already being the best you can be....
